RJA #15b Reflection on What you Learned
This semester was good I'm glad that I learned alot with computers and technology. Before I didn't really know what to do when It came to the internet. To be honest this is my last english class, and I'm glad I was able to research abortion I found out alot of information that I didn't know about abortion like I do now. The fact that I learned how to use the internet, and the blog I think I will be able to use it for other classes, and I wont be so insecure when it comes to using the internet. Great class I really enjoyed it!
RJA #14a Annotated Bibliography Part 2
Caradmone, Deborah. "The Shocking Story...Marla and her baby died tragic deaths!". Greenwood, IN:ProLife.com.2005.Web. 14 Oct. 2009.
This article is a very powerful resource about a mother who tells her story about her daughter Marla. Her eighteen year old daughter died from a botched abortion that killed her, and her unborn baby. She tells her heartfelt story about her daughter. I think her story helped me for my paper, because I wrote a part about abortions and what happened in the past and young girls dying from illegal and legal abortions is still occuring. I feel that since abortions are legal their needs to be clinics that provide safer abortions.
Carter, Debbi. "Free or Low Cost?". Vancouver:Suite101.com. 2008.Web. 7 Nov. 2009.
This artilce is a great because women and young girls can reach out to each other for resources. Debbi provided information on how women can get affordable birth control. She suggest places that young girls, and women can go for low cost birth control, and gives places where you can go if your low income or places that go based on your income. She even provides you with information that some places like your local Health Department Women's Clinic in your area or your local planned parenthood that sometimes gives you birth control such as: birth control pills, condoms, foam, IUD, Depo Provera for free!
Deveaux-Thomson, Amelia. "Birth Control Access Threatened by Recession". Redwood City, CA: Care2.com2008.Web. 5 Oct. 2009.
This article talks about the fact that some places don't provide low income birth control due to the recession, and some clinics even if you are on some types of government programs like Medicaid you still have to pay out of pocket for certain birth controls. She also speaks about how the major problem is that most girls, and women don't even have basic health insurance to even get a pap smear so birth control is just one of the problems. Women especially girls struggling from poverty can't afford to get birth control, because no insurance, and due to the recession, and lack of money, and jobs.
Fatusi O. Adesegun, Hindin J. Michelle. "Adolescents Sexual and Reproductive Health in Developing Countries: An Overview of Trends and Interventions". Vol. 35, Num 2. New York, NY: Guttmacher Institute, 2009. Web. 17 Oct. 2009.
This an article that talks about youth, and the widespread trends adolescents are following in many developing countries besides the U.S. It goes on to discuss the facts that there are many people who are infected with sexually transmitted diseases like Aids, and a lot of it is due to sexual activity at a young age, and the irresponsibility's of many adolescents not being properly informed about the correct usage of contraceptives. The authors go on to say that lack of sex education is the problem, and due to studies many adolescents say that they weren't provided with the facts about contraceptive use, and instead were confused and had mixed results rather than understanding the consequences, and what to do when you become sexually active. It goes on to say that parent, and child communication is very crucial to adolescents especially when it comes to talking about personal issues like sex. This was a great article, and gave me a better understanding of ongoing sexual trends, and it is was an excellent source for my paper.
Rey-Okazawa, Margo, Kirk, Gwyn. "Women's Lives: Mulicultural Perspectives". New York, NY: McGraw-Hill Companies Inc, 2010,2007,2004,2001,1998.Print.
This book is very informing, and is very resourceful, and has many feminists' outlooks on many issues that women have to face today, and have been in past years. The authors have a great section called "Women's Bodies, Women's Health" and it goes in to detail and talks about women's reproductive health the section that I researched. It covers birth control, and the controversies girls have had to endure with birth control, and talks about the side effects. It also gives an overview of abortion the past, and the present. Great book overall I would suggest it to any woman who wants to take a women's studies class or just wants to find out about women in the world, and all the challenges women have to face in today's society.
Riley, Keisha. "Getting an Abortion ain't Easy". San Francisco, CA: NewAmericaMedia.com.2005.Web. 6 Oct. 2009.
This article is from a larger article called "Youth Sounds off on Parents and Abortion". This girl responded to the article with her own personal experience, and opinion on abortion. When she posted her article she was sixteen, but she talks about when she was fifteen years old she fell in love with a boy, and got pregnant. She talks about how she decided to have an abortion, and could'nt talk to her mother, because her father wasn't in her life. Her mother was never there for her, and she kept it from her mother, because her mom had a boyfriend that took all her time, and didn't really care about her. So I think this was a great article it ties into what I'm trying to stress to my readers that lack of parent involvement really can affect your adolescent daughters lives, and it's important to establish a trusting, and open relationship with them while their young so that there's never secrets like being pregnant or being sexually active.
"Teen Abortion Risk Facts Sheet". Richfield, WI: Christian Life Resources.com. 2005-09.Web. 4 Octr. 2009.
This article provides facts from Elliot institute in Springfield, IL. The facts came form an article they wrote called "The Post-Abortion Review". The facts talk about girls who have had abortions, and girls who have had late term abortions the statitics. Great source it gave me useful that I used in my paper.
"Timeline:The Pill". Arlington:PBS new content. PBS.com. 2002.Web. 14 Oct. 2009.
This is a great source it helped me when I was writing my part on birth control in my paper. It gave me an overall look at birth control, and when it was introduced to the present. It covers the years threw 1951-1990. Read over it all. It was very informative learned how in the 1950's there were anti-birth control laws, and how in 1953 the pill project started, and by 1954 human trial, and testing on women started. It goes through all the years and how the birth control transformed throughout the years very great article by PBS.

RJA# 13b Annotated Bibliography Part 1
"Abortion Methods: Surgical Abortions". Front Royal VA: LifeSiteNews.com. 1997-09.Web. 5 Oct. 2009.
This Source was very helpful for my paper, especially the part in my paper where I discuss the different procedures that abortions are performed. I also did my presentation for my class on the four main types of abortions: Suction Aspiration, Salt Poisoning, Chemical, and Partial Abortions. It was a very descriptive article, and it goes into great detail with each procedure, and also gives you visual aids of fetuses, and how the babies develop throughout the different trimesters. The site gets its material, and facts from a doctor who wrote a book called: Abortion:Questions and Answers by Dr. J.C. Wilke.
Baker-Koerth Maggie. "Birth Control Stuck in the Dark Ages". TechMediaNetwork.com. 2009.Web.6 Oct. 2009.
It was a great article, and it went with what I was trying to talk about when I was dicussing birth control in my paper. It really just covered what is going on today with birth control, and how woman are feeling about birth control in general. It talked about how many women, and teenage girls are not currently happy with birth controls, because of the harsh side effects that sometimes occur. The woman state that we need more technology to make better birth control, but the lack of funds has caused the birth control research to diminish. So she talks about the huge research gap when it comes to developing better safer birth control. Plus she talks about how for now many researchers are trying to improve the birth control we have already.
Baumgardner, Jennifer. "Abortion & Life". 1st Ed. New York: Akashic Books.2008.Print.
It is a great book the author really provides history of abortion, and laws. Also she has interviewed many women who have had abortions, and allows those women to talk about what they have experienced during, and after their aboritons. She talks about strong feminist perspectives towards pro life, and pro choice. This book seems to be real and is positive, and seems to be current and up to date with abortion facts, and seems to be real with quality information that I feel is great for my paper. The information in this books is very beneficial for my arguemative paper.
"Be There for Teens: A Guide for Parents". Boston: CenterforYoungWomen'sHealth.com.2005.Web. 11 Nov. 2009.
This is a great article it has a great list of tips and suggestions for parents who have teen daughters so they can develop closer stronger relationships. Using this article in my paper was very helpful. Parents are a key part of my paper, and stressing the importance of parent involve=ment in adolescent girls lives. Girls have alot of emotional, and mental needs more so than boys. I feel this article focuses on important factors such as: paying attention to your daughters making time for one on one time. It also tells you to always listen to your daughters regardless if it has to do with personal issues (sex, drugs, etc.). I would suggest this article to other parents to read, because it has great parenting tips.

Results revealed that eight males total seven said yes in the first trimester, and one said no. In the second, and third trimester seven said no, and one said yes. There nine women total, and six said yes, and three said no. In the second trimester, and third trimester four said yes, and five said no.

RJA #10a Thesis Statement
THESIS:
Adolescent girls need more available resources to get cost efficent birth control, and physcological support so not only will abortion rates decrease, but young girls can protect themselves form STDs, and prevent unintended pregnancy.
ARGUEMENT:
my arguement is that abortions has became the main form of birth control for many adolescent girls today. many cant afford birth control, and are afraid to tell their parents that their pregnant and sometimes resort to illegal procedures, and later term abortions that are sometimes fatal and lead to death. So I'm going to talk about solutions and discuss why not only does there need to be more programs for young girls for cost efficent birth control, and sex education. Teaching the values of using contraceptives instead of solely teaching abstinence. Also the parent envolvment is important because parents should be more supportive and be more open for discussion on their adolescents sexual, and personal identites instead of feeling shame or embarassment.

The name of my Internet Research tool is Kartoo http://www.kartoo.com/
It is the first interface mapping metasearch engine it gives you the option to see the websites in different mapping layouts (columns, webs). you can change what information you want on the side bar display like images, sponsors, topics, games, and news. I dont think it has any weaknesses it strengths are definitly how it layouts the websites in different mapping styles.
I used operators such as: +abortion+birth control, +young girls+birth control+abortion,+pro life+pro choice. It had few stops, varied. Limits would be language. Sorting would be relevance and metasite. Display was good. Special features websites in a web map layout and you could click on them.

RJA#7c Field Research Plan
For my field research I'm planning on either doing a pole or a survey. If I do the survey some questions I plan to ask:
1) Who is Pro-Life?
2) Who is Pro-Choice?
3)Do you believe that their should be more resources available like intrevention on sex, sexual protection, and birth control for young girls between the ages 13 to 18?
4) How can birth control become more cost efficent, and afordable for young girls?
5)Do you think that instead of having an abortion should adoption become the better more safer option for young girls today?
I'm not sure when ill get it done I'm thinking before october 31st, but not sure when you think you would want us to get it done. I'm also wondering how many people to survey?
1) Who is Pro-Life?
2) Who is Pro-Choice?
3)Do you believe that their should be more resources available like intrevention on sex, sexual protection, and birth control for young girls between the ages 13 to 18?
4) How can birth control become more cost efficent, and afordable for young girls?
5)Do you think that instead of having an abortion should adoption become the better more safer option for young girls today?
I'm not sure when ill get it done I'm thinking before october 31st, but not sure when you think you would want us to get it done. I'm also wondering how many people to survey?

RJA#7a Internet Research tools
I usually use google, ask or yahoo. I have always just used these ones. I really love to use google but I guess I like the fact that it quick, and I dont think theres anything that I dislike about it. I have never really explored the web or internet that much only to check my email or look for directions, but now that I have used your link to your internet search tools I have searched new ones like all the web, bing and bing: advanced search. I also checked out the metasearch engine dogpile, and search.com. I like how metasearch engines search one then one search engine. I think thats neat. I also tried some of the specialty search engines like academic and scholar search, google directory.

RJA #3c Developing Research Question
I have came up with a few research question on Abortion:
1) Should there be more resources for young women to get birth control and mental support so the number of abortions reduces?
2)Is abortion considered murder, and who are the ones that consider it to be?
3)Why do most young women consider abortion, and instead consider other options such as adoption?
4)Why are more teen girls using abortion as a form of birth control?

RJA #3b Narrowing Research Topic
So my topic is Abortion. I feel that it is to broad of a topic and needs to be narrowed down to smaller subtopics. Some of the subtopics are great to go into discussion about in my research paper. My subtopics are: Laws on abortion, Other alternatives options such as adoption, birth control(pregnancy prevention in youth), women who choose abortion, and women who choose not to have abortions. I'm also going to talk about Roe vs. Wade, types of abortions, and moral and ethical issues, and aspects on abortion.

RJA #2b Research Topic
I choose to write my research topic on abortion. I feel that abortion is a strong subject that people in society disagree about quite frequently. There has always been an arguement when it comes to the issue of abortion. There are those who are in favor for it, those who oppose it and those who are uncertain where they stand about the issue on abortion.
I myself know a person who has had a abortion and have actually been there to give support threw the life changing experience. So I have seen what women go threw before and after the process. My personal choice is for it to certain extents. I feel that a womens choice is her own and if she chooses to have one then thats ok, but its sad to see young teen girls going to get abortions and using it as a form of birth control and getting repeated abortions and not having protected sex is not right because thats just being irresponsible. In a situation for instance a women is raped and she is devastated and chooses to get a abortion because she feels she cant raise a child thats a product of her horrific ordeal then she has the right to get an abortion.
I dont know much about abortions, but I do know alittle about the case of Roe Vs. Wade which gave women the right to have abortions. I want to learn more about abortions and see what peoples personal opinions are on the subject and see arguements that stand on both sides of the issue. I want to know if groups or organizations for abortion are trying to help young girls to become more mentally responsible and teaching them to have protected sex. Since birth control is now more available and accessable have the rates of abortion gone up or have they gone down? I'm excited to write this paper on abortion. I'm sure I will find answers to my questions along the way and also find out alot more on abortions and arguements coninsiding with the issue.
